Graphic Notation

In photography Graphic notation is an artistic approach of taking pictures and applying the theme or patterns in every image to convey a specific rhythm in music. In this cohesive set of images, I focused on street art and taking pictures of architecture and nature to bring out a concrete pattern that refers to musical symbolism. I edited the exposure and color tone in certain images to bring out the significance of moods and how that relates back to music notation.

  1. I think you successfully completed the assignment and could see many different songs constructed from your images. The incorporation of patterns, repetition and obvious focus would all be helpful concepts when creating a musical score from your pictures.

  2. Vlad! you really captured the concept of graphic notation, and how anyone could interpret these images into beautiful sounds. I especially liked the last photo because I imagined each drop on the pedal to be a different note on a piano while the pedals themselves are the drum beats, changing with the pace of the song.

  3. Vlad!! Great use of color and light to convey the concept of structure and form in musical compositions. You organize the subjects into very interesting patterns and I it would evoke similar qualities in music. The variation of rocks is especially interesting and could be interpreted into a single motive with many variations,
